If your home is looking a bit tired there are ways to make a big difference without spending too much money. Maybe you’ve neglected the garden, or maybe there hasn’t been a paint pot opened in many years. Whatever the problem, there are ways to spruce up your place without breaking the bank. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
Patio the Garden – If the weeds are out of control and you can hear monkeys calling out from the deep grass maybe it’s too big a job to cultivate your back garden. In that case why not get the diggers in and transform it into a lovely patio. You don’t need to boycott greenery altogether, there are lots of options for creepers and potted plants, but having a slabbed or chipped area around a home can really make a big difference. Many homeowners are attracted to the idea of a patio because once the initial hard work is over the maintenance is a piece of cake. Just a bit of weeping and maybe lay down some weed killer every now and then to prevent foliage grow up through the grouting. Excellent for those of us without green fingers.
External Masonry Painting – We all like nice fresh walls inside our homes but sometimes we forget about the exterior. If your outside walls are become a bit grubby looking why not paint them yourself. If you are in reasonably good health and have a ladder, and the weather is suitable, it is a relatively easy task. Also, if there are any cracks in the masonry it may be a good idea to use a little cement to fill the gaps and smooth it down before painting over them to get a really nice finish.
There are special external paints which can be used on masonry that will not only give the wall a clean fresh look, but if will protect against fungus and damp build up. The paints are reasonably inexpensive and the only other tool worth buying is a specialist, masonry paint brush. Trying to apply the paint with a conventional brush can be a bit tricky, and for the extra cost a suitable tool is well worth the investment.
Internal Decorating – A lick of paint is one thing, but some blemishes just can’t be hidden. Have no fear there are ways and means to smooth out wall and hide cracks. Skimming a surface with a wall filler and sanding it down can hide many flaws. Also, skirting and coving can be replaced or added to cover any unsightly gaps or cracks in corners. However, if the wall is really bad it might be worth bringing in a professional. There are many companies like Brisbane based Alpha Ceilings and Partitions who can renew an entire home, room, or just a single wall, with a modern, smooth, replacement surface.
